Transportation to and from the centre is either by car, bus or plane.
Please remember that you need to book your own flights, bus, shuttle or car (your travel to and from the centre) separately from any retreat or training event. It is not included in any package. The following information is designed to help the process! These are your options:
1. Flying from San Jose to the centre:
We recommend flying with Aerobell Airlines. They are a great company, and they’re our personal preference when getting to the centre. They will get you to the Palmar Sur (PMZ) airport, which is the one we’ll collect you from, as it is 15 minutes away from Navina Costa Rica. Even though it’s the more expensive option at about $160 USD return, it only takes 35 minutes to get you to Palmar, and the views are spectacular.
Please note that Aerobell use the “Tobías Bolaños Palma” airport in San Jose (code: SYQ). This is different to the Domestic terminal at the SJO airport. If your arrival in San Jose doesn’t line up with your Aerobell flight, or if you want to explore San Jose we’ve got two great hotel recommendations for you. For all the details of these recommendations, please head over here.
To book your flights, you can actually start searching right here right now. The interface below will get you started, and then it will redirect you to select and confirm your flights!

2. Getting a bus to Palmar Norte:
If instead, you’d like to take a bus to the centre, you’d need to make it to San Jose central bus station. You could do this part of the journey on a citibus, costing about $1. Then once at San Jose Central you catch a Tracopa bus (this is a brand/company) to Palmar Norte. It is a much cheaper option at around $15 USD, however it does take between 4 and 6 hours to arrive.
We would recommend only taking this option if you understand Spanish well and can communicate in the language, as there is no guarantee that anyone else will speak English and it will be important to understand where you are along the journey (and if indeed you got on the correct bus).
If you take the bus, you’d arrive in Palmar Norte at the station, where we’d collect you.
3. Taking a shuttle to the centre:
Another option is to arrange a shuttle to the centre. This option would bring you to the PMZ airport, where we would collect you. This option is something only available through the Adventure Inn – so check out the link above if you’re looking to stay a night in San Jose. If you’re not staying a night, you can still reach out to them to see if they are able to have you on the shuttle. In high season it leaves from the Adventure Inn at either 5am or 3pm and costs around $80 USD (cash only).
If you’re traveling with other people, and/or there’s a group of you in the retreat that would prefer to arrange a shuttle, the Adventure Inn could help set that up, where the departure time can be more flexible, as essentially you’d be chartering the shuttle. To find out more details, please contact them directly for assistance (they are wonderfully friendly).
4. Driving to the centre:
If you’re renting a car in Costa Rica, and you’re driving to the centre, you must rent a 4WD (not an AWD) vehicle. We are located on a mountain road where you need to cross through two rivers (yes, real off-roading 🙂 ). If you need the directions for this, you can either email us directly and we can send them to you, or you can google “Navina Costa Rica”, and use the google maps directions, as we have a verified location here.
